Yemen: CCCM Factsheet – June 2018

RECENT SITUATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS

  • On the 13th June, an offensive started along the red sea coast to take over Al Hudaydah Port by the Government of Yemen backed by the SLC (Saudi Led coalition) leading thousands of families to leave their homes once again to safer areas within and outside the governorate.
  • Two IDP hosting sites were targeted by airstrikes in Al Hudaydah City and Hays district which resulted in a number of casualties and injuries among sites residents.

RESPONSE

  • ADO (Abs Development for Women and Children) and SRA Foundation for Sustainable Development have completed the baseline assessment in 464 IDPs hosting sites in Sana’a, Al Mahwit, Hajjah and some districts in Al Hudaydah. The assessment will enable Cluster Partners elicit the multisectoral needs in IDP Hosting Sites and mobilize support to meet them through the Site Management support systems.
  • ADO and DRC started Site Management activities in Hajjah in some 13 pilot priority sites and IOM started in Ibb and Taizz in 30 priority and critical sites.
  • NCCT (National Cluster Coordination Team) delivered presentations on the integrated response methodology and areas of collaboration in the IDPs hosting sites during the general meetings of Protection, Education, WASH, Nutrition and Health Clusters. The idea to get the buy in from other Clusters and Partners to spear head the implementation of a coordinated integrated response in IDP Hosting Sites.
  • In an effort to provide guidance to the Cluster Partners and the humanitarian community, the Shelter/NFI/CCCM Cluster developed an Alternative to Camp policy to replace the unofficial ‘no-camp’ policy in place which provided guidance on alternative accommodation options that could be supported other than camps.
  • As part of the RRM (Rapid Response Mechanism) in Transit sites the Shelter/NFI/CCCM Cluster developed the process flow to ensure the efficient management of newly displaced IDPs through the Transit Site.
  • The Shelter/NFI/CCCM Cluster also supported the authorities in establishing IDPs hosting sites (schools) in Sana’a and Al Hudaydah to accommodate families passing through the Transit Sites with no other shelter options.
